Eat some alkaline foods. Foods that are alkaline help to neutralize acid in the body. Some examples of these include baby spinach, celery, cucumbers, avocados, sprouts, romaine lettuce, sea vegetables, kale and wheat grass.

Go for a brisk walk. Being overweight is a risk factor for acid reflux and it can exacerbate symptoms. Perform some daily exercise to keep weight under control. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, adults should get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week.

Organic grapefruit peels can be dried up and chewed on when reflux flares up. Another home remedy that can be used is apple cider vinegar. To use this, add one teaspoon to four ounces of water and drink it while you are eating.
